.gitignore

needed to hide files and folders from the Git version control system. Typically, configuration files (especially those with passwords), temporary files and folders are hidden.

Base:

Each line is a separate template.
Empty lines are ignored.
Lines starting with # are comments.
The slash character “/” at the beginning of the line indicates the current folder (where .gitignore is located).
The asterisk(*) replaces any number of characters.
Two asterisks (**) are used to indicate all subfolders.
An exclamation mark(!) at the beginning of a line inverts the pattern (used for exceptions).
To escape special characters, use the backslash “". To ignore an entire directory, the rule must end with a slash (/), otherwise the rule is treated as a file name.
The gitignore repository from github contains examples of gitignore files for all typical projects.

Example .gitignore file

Ignore foo.txt file.
foo.txt

# Ignore html files
*.html   

# But specifically foo.html should not be ignored
!foo.html   

# Ignore rar files in the project root

How can I exclude a folder from tracking but add a subfolder?

Problem 1

Remove the node_modules folder, but leave 2 subfolders jquery and semantic in it
